History
Lakeland Academy is the pinnacle of actions initiated by a group of parents, teachers, and Norma Morris, Head of School. In 1978, Mrs. Morris founded Country Day Montessori School in Rockwall with a desire to create a unique and suitable learning environment for her own gifted child.
In 1987, as a natural extension to the Country Day experience, Mrs. Morris founded Country Day Academy, for continuing the education of her second child. In 1994, the name changed to Fulton Academy in honor of a well known educator, Dr. Bernard Fulton, founding Head of the Greenhill School of Dallas.
Mrs. Morris lead the school for thirteen years, stepping down as Head of School in 2000 following successful opening of the current campus in 1999. The change in leadership brought a move away from the Montessori philosophy and methodology and in April 2001, Mrs. Morris resigned from the Board of Directors. Immediately, parents approached her with the idea of starting a new school consistent with their commitment to the Montessori methodology and philosophy. Once again Mrs.Morris ventured into start up mode and founded Lakeland Academy. In December 2006 Mrs. Morris closed her beloved Country Day Montessori School in Rockwall and began Lakeland Montessori Children's House.
Lakeland Academy currently enrolls students from 3 years through 8th grade with expansion plans for high school. Lakeland is located on a 70 acre ranch 4 1/2 miles south of I-30, in the small community of Union Valley. Lakeland conveniently serves the surrounding communities of Rockwall, Rowlett, Royse City, Greenville, Caddo Mills, Quinlan, Terrell and Forney.
